Casale San Lorenzo

Casale San Lorenzo

Stay with us at our idyllic retreat in beautiful Montalto delle Marche. Situated 3km from the town centre at the end of a private road our two apartments provide a tranquil base for exploring the Marche and Abruzzo regions of eastern Italy.

The lower part of Casale San Lorenzo was built in the 1920’s with the upper being built some time later. At one time it was home to a nearby family-one of our neighbours was born and spent his childhood here

Although it had been uninhabited for at least 30 years before we bought it, Casale San Lorenzo was still used by the local community as a sort of hunting lodge and local families used to picnic here on bank holidays, meaning that many visitors from the local area have stories of how they visited the house when they were children

When we bought the house it was very much derelict, so was totally demolished & rebuilt using the footprint of the original house. The Ortezzano apartment used to be the living room/kitchen and a bedroom and Monterinaldo was where they kept the cattle (complete with feeding trough)

The apartments

Ortezzano

Entering the Ortezzano apartment from the covered terrace will take you straight into the spacious living area. To your right is the kitchen, including a cooker with extractor fan, dishwasher, washing machine & fridge freezer. Tablewear, table linens and a range of cookware & utensils are provided. The rest of the room makes up the dining/living area. There is a table for 4 people, a comfortable double sofa bed, and a TV& DVD player.

The living area leads into a hallway and to your left is the front door to the apartment (in the position of the original front door to the house)and straight ahead is the bathroom, complete with bath & over head shower. To the right of this is the large double bedroom which is large enough to accomodate a cot if necessary

Our Ortezzano apartment

Monterinaldo

Our Monterinaldo apartment is on the Western side of the house & again the door from the terrace takes you into the living area of the apartment. On your left is a fully fitted, modern kitchen with fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and cooker with extractor fan. Cookware, utensils, tableware & table linens are provided. The living area has a dining table for 4,a comfortable double sofa bed, TV & DVD player.

Directly ahead is the double bedroom which has a lovely view of the garden and to your left is the bathroom which has a toilet, sink, bidet & glass shower unit

Items provided

We realise that certain airlines have a luggage allowance of just 15kg so have provided the following items:- toaster, kettle, iron, ironing board & hairdryer. There is also a selection of DVDs & books provided in each apartment for your use during your stay with us.Bed linen & towels are also included & are usually changed on a weekly basis

Outside

A covered terrace runs along the outside of both apartments so you can enjoy an al fresco meal (cooked either indoors or on the barbecue provided) or glass of wine while taking in the beautiful views and spectacular sunsets across the Aso Valley towards the towns of Monterinaldo & Ortezzano (after which the apartments are named).

Our latest addition is a garden, with a lawned area, flower beds and herb wheel. It is a wonderfully tranquil spot to sunbathe or read a book during the cooler parts of the day.

If you are feeling more energetic why not wander round our land, of which we have about 25 acres, made up of a nut grove next to the garden, a wood behind the house and farmland in front of the house, which reaches right down the hill to the San Lorenzo stream. Our neighbour used to farm the land, which apparently used to have 300 olive trees on it. We only have 40 left now and eventually would like to restore the 300. He also planted nut trees and a glorious cherry tree that you pass as you arrive at the house.
